Me

I took a lights out blogging break and broke out my camera gear instead. There is something about writing that I find addicting, but I don’t love it. I love photography. It has always been thus. So, during the break I started a small project to take photos of people using my iPhone and Nikon gear. I posted most of the work to Instagram. I also used my free time to study a few new photography techniques and focused on developing my skills. It was good for me. Real good. I invite you to look at my work http://statigr.am/mojoey.

The photo above is me. I’m much nicer than I look.

Call me a skeptic, but I don’t believe the good press surrounding Sharon Daugherty’s widely covered sermon where the Oklahoma megachurch pastor tells her parishioners to report child sexual abuse.

"I want to personally say, that if anybody here is aware of any child being neglected or abused, physically or sexually, that you should please inform the authorities immediately, Our children are precious, and we owe them our full protection."

Source: Okla. Pastor Tells Congregants to Talk About Abuse

A 13-year-old girl was raped in a stairwell by a church employee. At least two other children were abused and one other employee has been arrested. Church officials knew about the abuse and kept it quiet for two weeks. Daugherty knew about it herself and did not report it. Her excuse was that she had relied on the official administrative process and trusted that her employees would do the job correctly. The police did not charge her, but did charge four other members of the church, including Daugherty’s son and daughter-in-law, who were charged with failing to report. Daugherty should have been charged too.

"I was briefly told of an incident involving two ... employees and members of 24/7 (a youth group) ... and was told it was being reported but did not receive any details on the specific allegations," Daugherty said. "I was extremely disappointed to later hear of the delay in the time it was first reported."

Source: Victory Christian Center explains 2-week lapse in reporting rape claim

Victory Christian Center is a large church with thousands of members. It makes one wonder how much power, influence and money contributed to the decision not to charge her. I’m betting it was a factor. A lawsuit suggests the delay was an attempt at a cover up.

"Rather than contacting the appropriate authorities, defendant (Victory Christian Center) chose to conduct its own 'investigation' with the ultimate purpose of doing damage control as opposed to protecting" the victim, according to the lawsuit.

I would also like to point out that the victim’s parents could have reported the crime. Why would they delay reporting? Oh wait… the church lied to them. That makes sense given the church was trying to manage the damage. Arrest Daugherty. Charge her with failing to report. The facts are not in dispute. She knew about the crime. She violated her duty of care by not making sure the abuse was reported. It seems simple.

Teen births highest in the bible belt

Teenbirths

I learned two new facts today about the state of Christianity and its history. The first is obvious. Christian teens in the bible belt have the highest birth rates in the nation.

It’s easy to understand why New York City schools are handing out morning-after pills to teenage girls. Although teenage pregnancy and birth rates are declining nationally, teenage girls still give birth to hundreds of thousands of babies a year. To be precise, they gave birth to 367,678 in 2010 alone, according to the CDC. This map shows the birth rate among girls aged 15 to 19 by state. And it clearly shows that more conservative states have higher rates of teenage births.

Read more: Red States = Teen Moms

The second fact is less obvious. Syphilis, which was brought to Europe from the New World by Columbus and his crew, was known as the Christian disease by the Turks. I realize this was largely a racial/ethnic slur, but I’m sure it bears a grain of truth. I’m reading Bill Bryson’s At Home. It’s chock full of nefarious Christian trivia.

Transition Update

To contact us Click HERE
Update on my situation. I've officially moved out of my residence that was a sign of National 911 Judgment, as of 9/28. I am in a season of recovering from the move, which has impacted my ability to blog and respond to email as I rest and recover. It will take a little while to settle in to my new situation, unpacking and organizing. Blogging may resume, I can't say I know one way or another.

Aaron went back into the hospital for 7 days, and he is now home and resting and recovering too. Neither of us would have chosen this scenario for this time, and we consent that this a good thing. We agree that the Lord has us right where He wants us. If anthing here gets done in our own strength, we would prefer immediate corrective action. We want only to rest in the Lord's ability and find contentment with His provision, which is entirely sufficient and far, far better than we deserve. The Lord Y'shua continues to show us favor beyond any reasonable expectation and we are so grateful!

I continue to watch what is unfolding in the world, with particular focus upon the engagement with Iran. Technically, reports suggest Iran has already been engaged for a season, with intellegence agency operations targeting computers and scientists, but official declarations of war with direct military action have not yet been reported. What I understand from Daniel 8 is that a major judgment against the USA comes in the wake of war with Iran, where that country and "King" goes the way of Iraq before them. America has to be bounced with the result that the order will be established within which the lawless one will emerge, ascending to his appointed throne.

Part 5 - A Bioforming Pandemic: Is the Coronavirus the Final Piece of the Pandemic Puzzle?

As Bob pointed out in the
"Transition Update" post I am in a season of recovery, but there is much going on that needs to be presented. If you have been following this blog for a while and paying attention to this series you should be able to connect the dots I present here. Without further ado, lets get out our Holy Spirit Sharpies and get down to business.

* The WHO has not yet given the virus a name, but scientists at Britain's Health Protection Agency (HPA) refer to it as "London1_novel CoV 2012".

* Coronaviruses are typically spread like other respiratory infections, such as flu, travelling in airborne droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

* At this stage it is not clear where the virus came from. New infections can emerge from mutations to existing viruses, or be caught from infections circulating in the animal population. Human diseases that come from animal are called zoonoses.

Coronavirus: Mysterious New Virus Can Cause Fever, Cough, Breathing Problems

British health officials said today that a Rotterdam lab that first characterized the novel coronavirus linked recently to two severe illnesses hopes to publish the whole genome in the next 24 to 48 hours, and the UK's Health Protection Agency (HPA) launched guidance to help clinicians investigate and manage possible cases.

The HPA said in an update that the full genome sequence will be published by Ron Fouchier, PhD, based at Erasmus University in the Netherlands. The sequence will be based on cultured virus that has been at the lab since early July.

The HPA also issued a nine-page infection control resource for handling confirmed and suspected cases. It noted that coronaviruses are mainly transmitted by large respiratory droplets and direct or indirect contact with secretions. The agency also said the viruses can be detected in feces and urine and in some instances can be transmitted by aerosolized respiratory droplets and feces.

Full genome sequence of novel coronavirus expected shortly

Case 1
------
On [13 Jun 2012] a [60-year-old patient] presented with deteriorating pneumonia in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and a 7 day history of respiratory symptoms. The patient developed acute renal failure and died on [24 Jun 2012]. A novel beta-coronavirus was isolated and sequenced at the Erasmus Medical Centre (EMC) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands [1].

Case 2
------
On [11 Sep 2012] a [49-year-old patient] with severe respiratory symptoms was evacuated from Qatar to a United Kingdom hospital and was admitted to intensive care there on [12 Sep 2012]. The patient remains in hospital and has been on life support with pulmonary and renal failure. Extensive diagnostic tests for a causative agent were negative but on [21 Sep 2012] a pan-coronavirus RT-PCR test performed on lower respiratory samples was positive for a conserved sequence of the coronavirus polymerase gene.[2]

Comparison with the nucleotide sequence at the EMC indicated a close match with the novel virus isolated from Case 1. Contacts of Case 2, many of them healthcare workers, are being actively identified, monitored, and investigated for coronavirus infection. Some of them have reported mild respiratory symptoms but none have tested positive for the novel virus or developed severe disease to date [3].

Novel coronavirus associated with severe respiratory disease: case definition and public health measures

Researchers from the Erasmus University lab that first identified the novel coronavirus implicated in two severe infections have published its full genome sequence, which they and other European scientists used to develop two assays to help confirm any future infections.

The gene sequence is from virus samples that a Saudi Arabian doctor who treated the first patient sent to the Erasmus group in the Netherlands in July. The patient was a 60-year-old Saudi Arabian man who died after battling pneumonia and severe renal disease complications of his infection.

The Erasmus team has uploaded the sequence to GenBank and has termed the new virus hCoV-EMC, according to their report yesterday in Eurosurveillance...

Availability of diagnostic tests early in an epidemic is useful for the public health response, the group wrote. However, they noted that false-positive tests could hamper the development of risk assessments...

They wrote that they expected the case definition to evolve as more epidemiologic and diagnostic information becomes available...

Scientists sequence new coronavirus, develop diagnostic tests

As I mentioned before, if you have been following the blog and paying attention to this series you will be very familiar with Ron Fouchier, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam Lab, and the signaling numbers of "9-11", "9-12", and "9-21". There is much going on during this important season, and it is imperative that some of us know what is going on. May the Lord grant us all whatever it is we may need in this critically late hour to have and do all that He has for us. This is my prayer.

More to come, Lord willing.

GOP’s Self-Delusion Syndrome

To contact us Click HERE
The newest meme of the far right is that all of the polls which show Barack Obama ahead of Mitt Romney are a ploy of the liberal media and liberal elite designed, if you will, to demoralize the Christofascists and Tea Party gang enough so that they will simply stay home believing the election is already lost.  It seems that accepting the reality that the vision of America being marketed by today's GOP simply is not selling well with a majority of the country is beyond their contemplation.  Leading the charge against polls and reality are demagogues like Rush Limbaugh.  Even some Republicans from my former GOP days seem to be slipping into this reality denying bubble.  A column in The Daily Beast looks at the phenomenon.  Here are excerpts:

What a fantastic last two weeks these have been. I don’t even mean Barack Obama solidifying his lead over Mitt Romney, although that’s perfectly fine. No, I mean the near-mathematically perfect joy of watching these smug and contemptible creatures of the right dodge and swerve and make excuses and, most of all, whine. There is no joy in the kingdom of man so great as the joy of seeing bullies and hucksters laid low, and watching people who have arrogantly spent years assuming they were right about the world living to see all those haughty assumptions die before their eyes. Watching them squirm is more fun than watching Romney and Paul Ryan flail away.
Well, the polls have started to come, and they portend total disaster. Americans don’t turn out to like a heartlessly cruel Social Darwinian articulation of the national condition that by the by calls half the population worthless. Huh. Go figure.
But is this a problem? Of course not! There is an explanation for this too: The polls are wrong! All of them. Except of course Rasmussen, that rock of right-minded methodological certitude jutting out from the ocean of relativist corruption.

[T]he gold medalist of this event by far is Dick Morris, who sits there on the Fox set like a betumored walrus on an ice floe assuring his viewers not to worry. His riff to Sean Hannity Monday night, a night when everyone else saw that Obama’s lead was getting comfortable-to-the-point-of-insurmountable, is worth quoting at some length: “[Romney] is at the moment in a very strong position. I believe if the election were held today Romney would win by four or five points. I believe he would carry Florida, Ohio, Virginia. I believe he would carry Nevada. I believe he would carry Pennsylvania.” Even Hannity at this point interjected, “Oh, come on.”

[I]t’s not lies with which Limbaugh and Morris and their ilk are now coming face-to-face. It’s the truth. Americans like Barack Obama. They don’t like Mitt Romney. They really don’t like Paul Ryan. And they don’t want any part of the ideology of callousness and make-believe facts and pigheaded warmongering—and economic crisis and big deficits and all of that—that the Republicans are peddling. Of course these people will never come to terms with all that. But right now, boys, you’re running out of targets, and excuses.

I remain cautiously optimistic that the polls are accurate and that Obama is building an unassailable lead.  Nothing in my view will be better for the cause of gay rights - and the future of the country at large - than a resounding GOP defeat.   Will it be enough to cause the GOP to shake loose from the control of the Christofascists (the GOP platform is after all the wet dream of haters like Tiny Perkins and James Dobson)?  Probably not, but it could at least be the beginning of the end of the Christian Rights dominance in the GOP.

Is Paul Ryan Dragging Romney Downward?

To contact us Click HERE
The GOP base was in near orgasm frenzy when Mitt Romney tapped Paul Ryan to be his VP running mate.  They believed that Ryan would fire up the party base and allow for a solid conservative agenda to be presented to the nation.  Well, it seems that outside of those gathered around the GOP Kool-Aid dispenser, Ryan is having a far different impact than envisioned.  In fact, there is some indication that in key swing states, Ryan and his proposals for Medicare are driving voters into the waiting arms of Barack Obama.  Personally, I'm thrilled because I see Ryan as the antithesis of what a caring Christian ought to be in terms of supporting a safety net for those less fortunate.  It may be Mitt Romney who made the infamous statement about the 47%, but Ryan seems to really, really believe exactly what Romney was dumb enough to say out loud.  Here are highlights from a Washington Post piece that looks at Ryan's likely toxicity:
Voters in three critical swing states broadly oppose the far-reaching changes to Medicare associated with the Republican presidential ticket and, by big margins, prefer President Obama to handle the issue, according to new state polls by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation.

For seniors in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, Medicare rivals the economy as a top voting issue. And by majorities topping 70 percent, seniors say they prefer to keep Medicare as a program with guaranteed benefits, rather than moving to a system in which the government gives recipients fixed payments to buy coverage from private insurers or traditional Medicare, as Romney advocates.  Generally, the more voters focus on Medicare, the more likely they are to support Obama’s bid for reelection.

The future of Medicare, the federal health program for the elderly and disabled, has become a flash point in the campaign since Romney’s selection last month of Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.), chairman of the House Budget Committee, as his running mate. The choice of Ryan — who wrote a proposal that would move Medicare toward vouchers as part of an overall attempt to curb the deficit — is considered a bold and politically risky move, given Medicare’s popularity.   Now, the challenges for Romney in the aftermath of the Ryan selection are becoming clear.

[V]oter distaste for a Ryan-like plan may insulate Obama from the political fallout. It appears that Medicare may have become a winning issue — for Obama.  In Virginia, Cheryl Schaffer, 64, said she will vote for Obama in part because of his differences with Romney on Medicare.  “I’m hoping to have Medicare in six months,” said Schaffer, a Richmond retiree. “I don’t like what Romney is going to do to it.”

Although seniors nationwide dislike the idea of moving away from the current system, their opposition is even more pronounced in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, where both candidates have spent weeks saturating the airwaves with Medicare attack ads.

Obama hammers the Ryan plan continually, telling supporters at a campaign event in Milwaukee last Saturday that Romney and Ryan would “turn Medicare into a voucher program in order to pay for tax cuts for the very wealthy.”

This spells trouble for Romney, said Robert Blendon, a professor at Harvard University who monitors public views on health-care issues.

Asked whom they trust to deal with the Medicare program, Ohio voters favor Obama over Romney by a margin of 19 percentage points. The president has a 15-point advantage on the issue in Florida and a 13-point lead on it in Virginia. In a separate national poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation, released Thursday, Obama’s 17-point lead over Romney on Medicare is larger than it has been across public polls all year.

Perhaps the GOP leadership believed that the party's continued gay bashing and appeals to racism and anti-immigrant fervor would keep seniors in their column.  It would seem that the gamble isn't working as expected.

Austin Passes Resolution Supporting Gay Marriage

To contact us Click HERE
Earlier in the week I noted that the City of Austin, Texas was poised to take up a resolution endorsing gay marriage.  As it turned out, the vote to pass the resolution was unanimous.  There must be some serious spittle flying among Christofascist groups like FRC.  Here are highlights from KUT News:

Today Austin became the first city in Texas to pass a resolution in support of same sex marriage.  The measure passed the City Council unanimously this morning.
Before the vote, local civil rights groups declared their support for the resolution, which was sponsored by Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole and co-sponsored by Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Council member Laura Morrison.
At a press conference, Mayor Pro Tem Cole spoke about the evolution of rights in Texas, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King: “… Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Whatever afflicts once directly also afflicts one indirectly.”
Council member Morrison acknowledged the progress made within the Austin community, when it comes to civil rights, but said there was still a ways to go. Morrison pointed to practicality when making her point.“Marriage equality provides important legal and economic protections including access to health care, parenting rights, property rights and other protections,” said Morrison.
The practical implications of the resolution are unlikely to be great. In 2005, Texas voters approved an amendment to the state constitution, banning same sex marriage and civil unions. Travis County was the only county in the state where a majority did not support the amendment.

Former President of Ireland Criticizes Catholic Church View of Gays

To contact us Click HERE
There was a time in Ireland when no one - at least outside of Northern Ireland - in politics would ever dare take on the Roman Catholic Church or criticizes the Church for its medieval mindset.  Yet of late we've seen very harsh (and true) statements about the Church from the top of  political spectrum in the Republic of Ireland.  Now, former Irish president, Mary McAleese (pictured above), is criticizing the Church for its constant anti-gay venom and seeking to highlight the damage done to gays because of the Church's insistence of clinging to a literally medieval "natural law" construct which falls apart when faced with modern knowledge of sexual orientation.  Here are highlights from the BBC on McAleese's statements about the Church and its toxic treatment of gays and its consequences:

A former Irish President has criticised the Catholic church for its 'isolated' views on homosexuality.  Mary McAleese said she was concerned at the growing number of gay men who take their own lives. She said that when the research is broken down, it shows that young gay men are one of the most at-risk groups in Ireland.
Mrs McAleese was president of Ireland for 14 years. Her term in office ended in November 2011.
Speaking to RTÉ Radio, Mrs McAleese said many of these young men will have gone to Catholic schools and they will have heard there their church's attitude to homosexuality.  "They will have heard words like disorder, they may even have heard the word evil used in relation to homosexual practice," she said. "And when they make the discovery, and it is a discovery and not a decision, when they make the discovery, that they are gay, when they are 14, 15 or 16, an internal conflict of absolutely appalling proportions opens up".  She said many young gay men are driven into a place that is "dark and bleak".
Mrs McAleese said she met the Papal Nuncio shortly after Easter to raise with him her concern about the growing number of suicides among young men in Ireland. .   .   .   .   she said the issue will not be tackled until the "omerta" or code of silence on the issue is broken.

She well describes the horror and self-revulsion that many gays experience when they realize that they are in fact gay. Some like myself try to deny it for decades before finally accepting reality.  Others remain closeted and miserable their entire lives.  And others decide to end the struggle: they take their own lives.
The number of gay lives severely harmed or destroyed by the Catholic Church and backward, ignorance embracing religious sects is likely beyond calculation and must number in the many millions.  As for gay suicide, for those raised in anti-gay religious settings, suicide can appear to be the only solution because "change" doesn't occurred regardless of the snake oil lies of the "ex-gay" ministries.  Indeed, for gays the only way to cease being gay is to cease living.  I've known that reality and as I've shared before, along the way during my "coming out" journey I had two serious suicide attempts that left me hospitalized.  All because bitter old men in dresses and bombastic preachers can feel special and self-righteous.  So much suffering and so much harm - thanks to religious based ignorance and bigotry.

Straight Spouses: The Collateral Damage of the Ex-Gay Myth - Continued

To contact us Click HERE
I looked at this subject a little over a week ago and also posted a similar version of the piece on The Bilerico Project.  Some of the comments and messages I received were less than kind and accused me of, among other things, hatred towards Christians.  I also received a great deal of negativity from bisexuals who blamed the Straight Spouse Network ("SSN") for leading to unnecessary divorces of straight/bisexual couples.  Not being bisexual, I cannot fully grasp what equal attraction to both genders is like, but it would in theory certainly make remaining married far more workable than a gay/straight couple situation.  No two marriages are the same and the decision of remaining together ultimately comes down to what the spouses in each marriage are willing to accept.  If the straight spouse demands total denial of the other spouse's sexual orientation, I frankly do not see staying married as a viable option and this type of situation certainly sets the stage for help from SSN for the straight spouse facing divorce.

That said, in my view it the situation boils down to this: gays and bisexuals continue to marry straights in their quest to conform to societal and religious tradition expectations and they enter into these marriages facing vastly a increased likelihood of failure because of the mismatch of the individuals' sexual orientation.  That's the current reality.  And most of the motivation for marrying straight individuals traces back to prevailing religious beliefs that remain extremely anti-LGBT.  (The same anti-LGBT religious beliefs continue to fuel the discrimination, stigmatization and bigotry LGBT individuals continue to face especially in regressive states like Virginia.)  There simply is no way to give religion and Christians a pass on responsibility for this circumstance.  Take away anti-LGBT religious dogma and bigotry and the number of these "mixed marriages" would plummet.

As for the accusation that I hate and bear animus towards Christians, here's what I posted in a reply on the Bilerico piece I wrote:

I do not bear hatred towards all Chrstians as some would suggest. In fact, I contuinue to consider myself to be a loyal member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America which I joined after I left the Roman Catholic Church after coming out 11 years ago. The ECLA has opposed anti-gay marriage initiatives in both Washington State and Minnesota. Sadly, many "good Christians" do nothing and allow the hate merchants like NOM and Family Reseach Council speak for them.

Yes, I DO have a problems with denominations and individuals who knowingly reject legitimate medical and mental health knowledge and cling to ignorance and who continue to demonize LGBT people. Too many lives are being needlessly damaged or destroyed.

Unlike Rio, my divorce was horrific - the divorce court judge who consideres himself an upstanding Christian crucified me for being gay - and my relationship with my former wife remains chilly. Since we have children together that will keep us forever connected, perhaps an uncomfortable truce might be an apt description of our relationship. If my post contained bitterness, its because I have experienced first hand what happens when a doomed gay/straight marriage falls apart. I've also seen first hand what happens to the children of such marriages. And all of this pain and misery derives from religious based bigotry.
Yes, some LGBT individuals "are devout Christians and have found embracing, fulfilling spiritual homes" to quote one commenter.  But that doesn't excuse religion and Christianity in particular for the damage still being done to LGBT people every single day.  I would further ask: where are these "embracing spiritual homes" when it comes to standing up to and openly condemning anti-gay denominations that continue to disseminate anti-gay hate and animus?   Most of the time they remain quiet and yield the field to the hate merchants. Oh, they may sign LGBT supportive letters that rarely see the light of day outside the LGBT media and blogosphere.  But we rarely see them on the network news and other outlets that have a massive viewership.

I applaud the actions of the ELCA bishops in Minnesota and Washington State but the sade truth is that such actions are the exception to the rule.  Most LGBT embracing denominations contine to be afraid to speak out because they fear ruffling the feathers of the sizable minorities within their denominations who are not pleased with the national body's acceptance of LGBT church members and/or clergy.  And the result we see is equivalent to the "good Germans" who remained silent as the Nazis came to power and unleashed hatred on the world.  Silence ultimately renders one complicit in the evil done by others.

'One battle over, but the war continues,' by Bro. Derek Gordon

The following is reprinted from the website of Bro. Derek Gordon.

One Battle Is Over, But The War Is Not

A great man and Mason, who was overshadowed by the three-term Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, stated: “Carry the battle to them. Don’t let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don’t ever apologize for anything.” Harry S. Truman, a native of Missouri, was not from a political elite family. In fact, this pivotal man came from a farming family. He achieved an end to World War II after approving the use of two nuclear weapons on the Rising Sun of the Empire of Japan.

Many of us don’t realize how much power we have by defying the status quo and standing up for what’s right in life. We come from all sorts of families; I grew up in a blue-collar household. Certainly, we don’t grow up thinking we can drop a figurative nuclear weapon. But, there are times when each one of us must stand strong to shine that bright spotlight on those harming what we all stand for.

However, when we are leading a resistance, it is futile to continue a long battle that will continue to degrade into a slanderous quagmire. There would be nothing to gain from doing so. And, it would hinder one’s own desire to introduce change of disgusting policies designed to destroy those who defy the corrupt leaders; and it would bring about a notion that the fight isn’t as righteous as it truly is.

I stood down against the Arkansas Oligarchy in an effort to allow change to foster. Unfortunately for the time being, the reaction from the leadership is to portray me as a liar, a cheat, and a scoundrel. Some will believe their shallow attempts, but many will see the holes in the points they make. Every comment I made I offered proof. Each comment their cronies made have been backed up with more libelous statements.

A post below discussed that I resigned and did not expel myself. Accusations are rampant that I hid information. I would appreciate it if the oligarchy would provide the documentation. Further, I requested written documentation from the U.S.P.S. that there were not attempted deliveries between April 14th, 2010 and May 3rd, 2010. A phone call confirmed this; however, I feel such documentation added atop my continually-growing pile would be a wonderful addition.

The war against the evil lurking at 700 Scott St. in Little Rock will continue as the deep-rooted unprofessional ideologies are perpetuated by the leadership. There are many more abused Arkansas Masons who are just realizing how important it is to speak out. Once again, I point to the article detailing my life as a Mason in Arkansas and the provided phone logs. I’ve tried civil and professional means and have continually offered to let the issue end. I tell you, Grand Lodge, you still are playing a game that you miscalculate and under appreciate the importance of. I challenge those in charge to meet on neutral ground to end the matter professionally, orderly, and most important, as Masons “meeting on the level” would expect.

“It is important to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.” — Albus Dumbledore; J.K. Rowling, The Half-blood Prince

Is Freemasonry 'just as good' as Christianity?

To contact us Click HERE
The Burning Taper received the following email a few days ago. Anyone like to take a shot at answering this woman's questions?
sir, as a Christian I've always been troubled with the mason being "yoked"as it would seem to non believers, which (to me) would give the non believer the inference that his religion is just as good as Christianity. The "all roads lead to the top" line would sorta fit in that category also would it not?.. Unless Jesus lied, His way is the only way to heaven, so why would the Craft allow the impression that there's more than one way? As such, how could a Christian remain in the bond with non believers without abandoning his stance on wittnessing, contending for the faith etc.?? curious.Appreciate any response. Because late in life my uncles ,for instance, finally had great difficulty remaining in the lodge ,especially, after their dedication to the church/knowledge increased.

Guess who's coming to dinner?

To contact us Click HERE
It seems many rank-and-file Masons, in many locales, are becoming more and more fed up with the actions of Grand Lodge leaders.

This short article was sent to The Burning Taper recently. The author wishes to remain anonymous, for fear of retribution for reporting events and expressing his opinion.

Arizona Grand Lodge Annual Communication began with the Royal Banquet on Wednesday evening, June 2, 2010 prior to the official opening of proceedings on Thursday morning.

The Head Table consisted of Arizona Grand Lodge officers and their wives. Seated near them were the visiting dignitaries representing various Masonic grand lodge jurisidictions. There were 13 listed on the list handed out to all attending members. Most were "line" officers representing their State or jurisdiction with two currently sitting grand masters.

The two grand masters attending the Banquet were Most Worshipful Martin E. Warren, Grand Master of Masons from the Grand Lodge, F&AM of Arkansas, and Most Worshipful Lewis R. Brent, Grand Master of Masons from the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Arizona. They were not seated at the same table.

When the Grand Lodge opened in Due Form in the 3rd Degree on Thursday morning the MW Lewis R. Brent from Prince Hall was present, but the MW Martin E. Warren was conspicuously absent. He was not seen in any of the subsequent tiled lodge meetings all day Friday or on Saturday.

It is the custom of the Grand Lodge that, when a pedestal officer (Grand Master, Senior Warden and Junior Warden) leave their stations during the proceedings that they place the Jewel of their office on one of the brothers in the room.

Several times during the proceedings on both days, the Senior Grand Warden Brook Cunningbrook chose a highly decorated Phoenix policeman, who is a member of one of the Arizona F&AM lodges and had been shot in the line of duty, to sit high on the chair located on a pedestal in the West to replace him temporarily. He is black.

There were two other black members of Arizona F&AM lodges present and the Senior Grand Warden had them also replace him in the West. It is quite an honor to do this.

In this case, in my opinion anyway, it was kind of an "in your face" type of gesture to some of the members of the Arizona jurisdiction who have moved to Arizona from one of the 10 states that do not recognize Prince Hall and have complained about having to sit in a lodge with a black man. Whether it was directed towards the Grand Master of Arkansas, I can only speculate.

What's interesting about this is that the Grand Master of Arkansas spent the money to fly to Arizona only to have dinner. Since it is customary for Grand Lodges to pay for the travel expenses of their grand masters, I wonder if the brethren of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas got their monies worth. Since he did not attend any of the business meetings by sitting in a tiled lodge with a black man but only attended the social functions, it seems to me that he spent a lot of money just for a free dinner and drinks, even if the cost came out of his own pocket.

This obviously was an example of the kind of “Imperial Leadership” prevalent in many jurisdictions and is not restricted to Arkansas alone.

This post illustrates the connections and highlights a recent development in supercomputer tech that suggests similar prepping for the coming mark of the Beast.

Hangar 18, a sci-fi "B" movie from 1980 flopped at the box office. It was later skewered in Mystery Science Theater 3000 (May 1989). Like Ed Wood's “Plan 9 from Outer Space” (covered here), the real value for us in this is how the Devil's plan is set forth in yet another window of insight into what has been and what's coming soon.

Hangar 18 is an appropriate title for this UFO movie because Hangar 18 at Area 51 is the most famous building at the base. At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, another Hangar 18 allegedly houses what was collected from the Roswell UFO incident. The film capitalized on the public's awareness of those numbered hangars. The number in the title is what drew my attention to this film, because 18 as a familiar signal number like 9 (1+8=9) and 666 (6+6+6=18).

Here's the dialog of a key scene.

Harry: Kelso has deciphered the alien's language. This is a translation of a document found aboard the spacecraft. Now, the translation is very rough and is incomplete, but if what we can read is true, and there's no reason to doubt that it is, then all the previous information that we have had about the origin of mankind and the human race is absolutely false!
Man: What are you talking about, Harry?
Harry: This is a report of a previous visit of the spacemen to earth. This report speaks of the capture, the training, and the use of certain “animals” as slaves, both male and female. The slaves worshipped them as gods.
Man: Then, what they referred to as “animals” were pre-humans?
Harry: Yes. The report also speaks to the fact that the female slaves found it a great honor to be chosen to live with and to bear the offspring of the gods. You see it's no coincidence that the spacemen are almost identical to us. It is not, Sarah, a case of two species developing, evolving independently of each other. Those ancient spacemen altered forever our evolution. They are the missing link.
Man: Do you know what you're saying?
Harry: We, mankind, the human race, are their children. What we must find out now is why they're monitoring us, why they're watching us!

When Harry says “all the previous information that we have had about the origin of mankind and the human race is absolutely false,” he's referring to anything that contradicts the story told in the document, which includes the Bible. This repudiates Genesis and invalidates Judaism and Christianity, of course.

By now, the “alien” document's version has become pretty familiar to me. It reflects back to what really happened in the Garden of Eden (Eve bore the offspring of the nachash, the patriarch Cain) and also reflects upon the days of Noah. There's a clue in the statement “why they're watching us” because it was 200 angels in a class known as Watchers who chose breeder wives for themselves among mankind. They, with their offspring, were targeted in the purging of flesh from the face of the earth in the flood of Noah's day. That “alien” document's story is becoming very relevant because a version of it appears to be coming within the next 3 years, with plenty of hard evidence to back the claims. The story will be like Hangar 18's version, with some truth mixed in with deadly lies.

The numbering of the hangars and the film as 18 signals the mark of the Beast transformation. That's not the only number signaling. In the scene that immediately preceded the key dialogue two astronauts were in an elevator, descending. We were shown three numbers representing floors, 24, 23, 22. The 23 in the middle is the signal sex chromosome number. The sum of the three numbers is 69, another key signal number for the mark of the beast transformation, triple helix DNA. While the pair of astronauts were descending in the elevator, the bracketed 23 and the sum 69 signaled seed descending from heaven to earth. The scene then cuts to another where we hear the interpreted document's version of our heritage, as descended from spacemen. “We, mankind, the human race, are their children.” Obviously, one scene was intended to set us up for the next. Have you ever heard of the ancient astronaut theory promoted by such as Erich von Däniken, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, Zecharia Sitchin, Robert K. G. Temple and David Icke. There it is.

The movie is an occult messaging device, concealing and revealing, a vehicle for mass media programming.

I wonder how many children watching the movie may have blurted out something like, “Hey, look Mommy! The alien looks like grandpa!” I think he looked like Tor Johnson, who played the big zombie-ghoul from Plan 9. (See image below right) I think that was a planned association to establish a subliminal link between these two productions.

We do have “alien” DNA, serpent DNA. Claims to this effect will be validated, so that much is true enough. Noah had been a pure descendant of Adam, “perfect in his generations.” We are not. The lies from the father of lies will spin this to his advantage.

Discrediting the Bible makes the whole sin and judgment “problem” vanish like a disproved myth. Since there will be no salvation issue, Beast or mark of the Beast, such a sales job as this will remove the barrier for many who would otherwise reject the genetic “upgrade” that will be offered as the “life” option that “completes their evolution.”

In a scene near the end of the movie, we hear some more NLP or suggestive programming in the dialog.

“These are all designated landing areas.
O my god, they're coming back!”

The “alien” (O my god) gods are returning. The planned landing areas were sites obviously chosen for world domination. The return (that is never addressed further) appears to be for an invasion. This is what the “alien” commander, aka the Devil is orchestrating. The two Beasts the apostle John saw rising from the sea and earth, will make their appearance as the stars in this show. Perhaps most centrally, Revelation 9 pictures entities like locusts rising from the pit in a kind of alien invasion. Similar scenarios were pictured in Plan 9 from Outer Space and in a few of Rango's scenes, plus in many other movies. Many expect an alien invasion of sorts where they manifest and cause chaos in December of this year. While there may be something to that, I can't say I know. I do believe there will be several phases of what some consider an “alien invasion,” manifesting in a variety of deceptive ways. I believe this began a very long time ago and that it will continue until the campaign of Armageddon is decisively brought to its appointed conclusion, as per Revelation 19.

19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh. ~ Revelation 19:19-21
That end may be seen as a conflagration. Right after the dialog I just presented was heard, Hangar 18 is hit with an incendiary device falling from the sky (false flag) and everything goes up in flames. The fiery destruction of the earth described in 2 Peter 3 seems to be in view. The only survivors of the assault were those who had been inside the alien ship, which was unscathed. The false flag assault on Hangar 18 had been intended to destroy the alien ship and all evidence that it had existed. The plan backfired and the alien ship and the government cover-up were exposed. The movie ends with a media report that suggests the end of the US presidential administration responsible for the deception. Maintaining that administration's status quo had been a important plot line throughout much of the movie. The message seems to be that this current administration's attempt (sovereign Yahweh) to defeat the alien will fail. That's just not going to happen.

Here's a snippet of dialog from the movie I felt was very revealing.

Scientist: Yeah, but I still haven't figured out what method they're using to record and store all this stuff.
Harry: Magnetic.
Scientist: Doesn't appear to be. The recordings themselves seem to be on sort of crystalline microchips.
Harry: Crystal. Keep at it.
I've been writing pretty regularly about DNA as both hydrous and crystalline. Aaron reminds me of documented reports of those who receive kidney transplants acquiring the memories of the donor. The tissue or the DNA of the tissue appears to be a repository of memory, crystalline storage and perhaps recording and playback devices.

Hangar 18. A cheesy movie that spills plenty of beans.

Via an occult message delivery system that sits somewhere toward the other end of most folks' credibility spectrum, Wired.com just served up an article titled, “‘World Shaker’ Crossbreeds Processor With Memory Chip.” In it, we read, “In today’s world, biomedical research and other “Big Data” applications that juggle enormous amounts of information are butting up against that memory wall, and if we’re to achieve “personalized medicine” — where we tailor drugs and other treatments to an analysis of an individual’s genetic makeup — we need chips that can push through that wall.

This touches upon the mark of the Beast, as I've described in several posts what I believe will be the technology of an implanted chip. (including here: Part 11 - See, it's the "i" of Horus! ISIS Mobile Commerce Network and Isis Mobile Wallet) I believe a chip will be customized to an individual's biology, and that through a bio-feedback looping of harmonics, the genetic code will be rewritten to generate a third strand of DNA matching to the Beast. Presto chango. Mark of the Beastie post-human hybrid.

NLP title? “‘World Shaker’ Crossbreeds Processor With Memory Chip.

‘World Shaker’ ~ Shaking or resonating the DNA of the global population
Crossbreeds ~ creating hybrids
Processor With Memory Chip ~ The processing accomplished by the implanted microchip merges the individual according to “memory.” Memory?

Crucial's slogan presents them as the memory experts. When you're aware of the professed memory experts' implicit link to DNA transformation you can confidently connect the dots to the Memory Tower featured during the closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The reason that tower was cryptically called a memory tower and designed to model DNA transformation and man's ascension to godhood is because DNA persists the form and nature of its ancestors, "remembering" its ancestors. The mark of the Beast scheme is to rewrite the DNA memory, blotting out the Creator by means of installing a substitute! Crucial signals that they are complicit, and, by their signaling are advancing the scheme through subliminal and supernatural influence.
~Part 7 - See, it's the "i" of Horus! The Crucial oracle reveals how to gain gnosis
The “Memory Tower” from the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing, 2008

What we see pictured in the Olympic signs is a coming season of "raining soccer balls from heaven," creating a flood that will destroy the seed of the true God as inherited from Adam and Noah. The soccer ball is the dragon's seed, which will join with willing hosts. The pattern for this comes from the biblical account of Noah's day, and also from the season of Adam and Eve's interaction with the serpent and subsequent heritage of Eve's firstborn, Cain. This new condition will be as though one were impregnated with the dragon's seed, making literal physical hosts for his agents in the hierarchy of the spirit of antichrist. The Chinese presentation of the "Memory Tower" as the DNA/Tower of Babel gateway between the natural and supernatural, between the flesh and the spirit, is a vivid witness testifying of the same. To perceive this reality is to understand the flood of Noah's day on a deep level, acknowledging the role the Nephilim played in that judgment. To perceive this reality is to see the motives of those involved in cloning and transgenics. Stargates are not mere sci-fi but real and significant portals for the stars of heaven that will facilitate the completion of their appointed work.

PR Newswire: International Justice Mission President And CEO Addresses Modern-Day Slavery And Sex Trafficking Solutions At 2012 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting

Is this a signal that the Illuminist global conspirators' goals have been attained? Is this an official declaration that their ritual sex magick and ritual sacrifice “account ”has reached sufficient “balance,” and that the recruitment campaign for building the slave army of multiples has met their quota?

The CGI and UN meetings are underway. Global destabilation economically, politically and socially appears to be progressing apace. Military engagement with Iran (Daniel 8) appears to be at hand. All is as it should be. I do hope you've been preparing for this season.

Not your grandfather's Freemasonry

Bro. Fred Milliken has written an excellent piece titled "I Resign."

Though the information presented about Bro. Derek Gordon's ordeal with the Grand Lodge of Arkansas is interesting and enlightening, the real meat to the article is Bro. Fred's summary:
  1. This is no longer your Grandfather’s Chevrolet... er, Grand Lodge. Freemasonry must stop living in the past as West Virginia and Arkansas are doing. Instead it needs to adapt to the mores of present day society.

  2. Running a closed society that allows no freedom of expression and muzzles its members is antithetical to Freemasonry of the Enlightenment.

  3. Operating a society with laws, rules and regulations that conflict with civil law and civil rights is not only not in the spirit of Freemasonry but also blatantly immoral.

  4. An organization in this day and age, especially a nonprofit volunteer one, cannot realistically force a person against his will to remain a member. It should be the option of any Freemason to simply resign from any Grand Lodge.

  5. Making up silly and vindictive rules such as prohibiting members from using the Internet or any electronic means to discuss Freemasonry is unbecoming and un-Masonic.

  6. It’s been almost 50 years since Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights movement transformed America. It is past time that Grand Lodges reflected that change.

  7. It is painfully evident that Grand Lodges can no longer operate as they have done in the past. This is the 21st century with new ways of looking at different lifestyles and morality. Grand Lodges are now in a public-private partnership yet they refuse to recognize their duty to civil law and their new commitments. Failure of Freemasonry to operate within the framework of present day moral, societal and political civil practice could be very costly to the Craft.
Bro. Fred makes some excellent points. Read the entire article.

Legal Intern Impacts Advances in Trafficking Awareness in Japan

To contact us Click HERE

Third-year Regent University law student Rebekah Kaylor grew up in Japan as the daughter of missionaries. But, when she started her degree at Regent Law, she never dreamed her studies would take her back to the country she'd grown to love.

Sponsored by the Center for Global Justice, Human Rights & the Rule of Law, Kaylor is one of a group of 22 interns working on issues of human trafficking and justice both in the United States and abroad.

Kaylor's summer internship was with Operation Blessing International (OBI) in Japan. Her task: researching ways the non-profit organization can help fight violence against women, including sex trafficking and domestic violence in Japan.

"Even though Japan is one of the largest destination countries in Asia for trafficking victims, awareness of trafficking is very low," Kaylor explained. "Many times, there is either an outright denial of its existence or a complete misunderstanding of what it is."

One of the major reasons Kaylor decided to go to law school was because she wanted to fight violence against women. When the opportunity to complete an internship under the umbrella of the Center for Global Justice arose, she knew the right doors were opening.

"I was overwhelmed that God opened the doors for me to be able to go to Japan, a country I love, and work as an intern in the field I am passionate about," she said.

Kaylor knows that her first two years at Regent Law prepared her for this internship.

"In law school you are taught to identify the rule and then to analyze by applying the facts to the rule to come to a conclusion," Kaylor said. "I would go into an interview with the definition of trafficking and, as I talked with the interviewee and elicited facts, I realized as I applied the facts to the rule that, even though the interviewee was insisting that they had not worked with trafficking victims, they actually had. I was able to use this to demonstrate that problems such as human trafficking are a lot more widespread then statistics show."

As she enters her final year of law school, Kaylor has a new perspective on her future as an attorney and advocate for women's rights.

"The greatest way my career plans have been impacted is simply understanding that God is the One who opens the door," she said. "Yes, it is our responsibility to knock on doors, send out applications, network, etc. Ultimately, though, God is the One who opens the right door at the right time, and we need to have a responsive heart in order to walk through."

Law Community Service Day Impacts Local Community

Volunteers landscape at Union Mission.
On Friday, Aug. 17, 156 Regent University School of Law students joined law school faculty and staff to serve the Hampton Roads, Va., area during the school's fourth annual Community Service Day.
Regent Law holds this event annually the week prior to the start of the fall semester.

Volunteers accumulated over 620 hours of community service across regional sites including Union Mission, Habitat for Humanity, Norfolk Portsmouth Bar Association, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Society of St. Andrew, St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, The Bridge Christian Fellowship and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.

Community Service Day volunteers painted, picked peas to feed families in need across Hampton Roads, landscaped lawns and restored buildings, boosted the Chesapeake Bay's oyster population, and helped needy clients secure professional legal services—all in a single day.

Before sending the students out to serve, Darius Davenport, director of Career and Alumni Services and Community Service Day coordinator, reminded them that the profession of law is a profession of service, that their faith includes a call to service, and anytime they use their God-given abilities to help others, they are fulfilling their calling.

"Our call to salvation included a call to serve, and any time we use our God-given abilities to serve others we are living out our calling," Davenport said. "There is no better way to teach this principle than to live it, and that's what we strive to do. For some students, community service is nothing new, but for others, it lets them experience our community's needs firsthand. All of them return to campus more enthusiastic and more willing to serve."

Interns Make Impact on Fight Against Human Trafficking in the U.S.

A summer legal internship evokes images of students hunched over legal tomes in a dusty law library. While there was certainly research and writing involved, for a group of Regent University School of Law students, the traditional summer internship has been redefined.

Sponsored by the Center for Global Justice, Human Rights & the Rule of Law, second-year law students Heather Pate, Danielle Gallaher and Nicole Tutrani didn't travel to far-off locations; rather they stuck close to home, choosing to work with people and organizations fighting for human rights in the United States.

Pate spent the summer as a policy intern for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) in Washington, D.C. Her primary responsibilities included scheduling meetings with Congressional staff, agencies and professionals with research or concerns about adoption care and policies. She also participated in meetings with various agencies, wrote and edited publications outlining research and legislation, and even oversaw CCAI's two youth interns.

"I learned about the legislative process, problems and best practices in foster care and adoption, networking on Capitol Hill, and my writing and editing skills increased immensely," she said. "I learned that creating laws is all about relationships and finding the right people to strategize in an effective manner to influence the right people."

Tutrani's internship was with The Samaritan Women, a restoration home, located in Maryland, for victims of human trafficking and homeless female veterans. Her primary legal responsibilities included identifying gaps in the Maryland Code pertaining to human trafficking legislation. She was tasked with writing legislative amendments and new legislation that was organized into a plan to lobby for additional services for trafficking victims.

"American laws as they relate to human trafficking can be just as inefficient and outdated as those around the world," she explained. "I realized that everything I dreamed I could be doing overseas needed to be done right here in the United States."

Gallaher spent her summer in Delaware County, just outside Philadelphia, working with assistant district attorney Pearl Kim. Working closely with Kim, Gallaher was able to assist with jury selection, coordinate witnesses for trials, and work with Kim and federal agents on a number of issues pertaining to the prosecution of human trafficking violations. Toward the end of her internship, she was also asked to develop language access policies for trafficking victims with limited English proficiency.

"The most valuable aspect of my internship was actually seeing what it takes for a prosecutor to prosecute human trafficking cases," Gallaher said. "All of this experience helped me better understand various mechanisms and interactions in the criminal justice system. I gained a well-rounded perspective on how to operate as a prosecutor and use the position to influence various governmental sectors."

Besides the practical knowledge and training each acquired, all three women agreed that their internships gave them the chance to see their faith in action on a daily basis.

"This is the heart of God and it is His love that I desire and fight for," Gallaher said. "Isn't it faith to stand for and believe in God's truth despite our circumstances?"

"There is a quote at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., that says something to effect of 'now that you've seen it, what are you going to do about it?'" Pate said. "Now that I have been exposed to the barriers of foster care and adoption and know the process for amending and fixing these problems, I can't ignore them."

"I have learned you do not need to go far from home or even your own family to make an impact," Tutrani wrote on a blog just days into her internship. "I can assure you that whether you are working internationally to protect those girls who act as the 'supply,' or in a Western nation to prosecute those men who provide the 'demand,' God has placed each one of us in a position of His choosing so that He might work through us and for us this summer."

Students Put Legal Knowledge to Work in Eastern Europe

To contact us Click HERE

It all started with a nudge from the Career Services Office in Regent University's School of Law. Third-year law students Anastasios Kamoutsas and Mary Hill discovered that the A21 Campaign, an international non-governmental organization dedicated to ending human trafficking around the globe, was hiring interns. One application process later, Kamoutsas was on his way to Greece and Hill found herself in Ukraine.

Both internships were sponsored by the Center for Global Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law, housed in Regent's School of Law.

As an intern in the A21 Campaign office in Greece, Kamoutsas worked primarily on the organization's yearly submission to the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The TIP is a tool the U.S. State Department uses to represent a global look at the nature and scope of human trafficking and the range of government actions being taken to confront and eliminate it.

Greece was a prime location to learn firsthand about the work being done to prevent and rescue victims of trafficking, Kamoutsas explained. "In Greece, specifically, the issue is that there's not enough awareness going on," he said. "If there was some type of awareness of human trafficking, it would prevent a lot of the women from being trafficked."

Working with A21 in Ukraine, Hill gathered information from all 129 of the major universities in Ukraine with the aim of developing plans to contact all of the universities and bring awareness of the trafficking problem to the student body and professors. She was also responsible for creating awareness flyers to be distributed in destination countries of Ukrainian-trafficked victims, primarily in Eastern Europe.

"The purpose of providing this information is to equip the various countries, and specifically the student population looking for jobs, with accurate information," Hill said. Just as in Greece, lack of awareness is the biggest factor in trafficking, she explained. "Because internet service is not always available, students seeking international and even domestic jobs are at a high risk of encountering traffickers whose promises of financial compensation are unrealistic yet seductively tempting."

Hill also created a pamphlet explaining legal rights of trafficking victims. The pamphlet will be translated into Russian and given to trafficked girls in shelters so that they will know their rights if they decide to go through the process that will give them victim status.

For both law students, a firsthand look at the work of the A21 Campaign also opened their eyes to a darker side of humanity. "I wasn't aware of how prevalent trafficking was in Europe," Kamoutsas said. And, despite the prevalence, "There are no attorneys who are familiar with the subject to litigate," he added. "It's very difficult to resolve the issue."

Their experiences in Eastern Europe left an impression that neither Kamoutsas nor Hill will quickly forget. "It helped me to put into perspective the value of a law degree," Hill said after she returned. "This internship has revealed to me the need for attorneys that will fight against the issue of sex trafficking. It is hard for the victims to get an attorney to take their case, because many times they don't have the money to pay one. Even though it is part of the law that a victim of trafficking have legal aid, it is scarcely practiced due a general lack of enforcement of the written law."

Like Hill, Kamoutsas discovered a great need for providing legal help to victims. "[God's] given me a heart for it," he explained. "It's to fulfill a purpose that He has that maybe I don't even see right now.

"It's more than just a profession, it is a calling," he added, quoting Regent Law's motto. "There's just a greater purpose. You really have to have the perspective that this life is temporary, and we're only here to fulfill His plan."

Living with War: Memorial Day 2010

For the past four Memorial Days [2006, 2007, 2008, 2009], I've honored the memory of those who have died in the War in Iraq, or whatever we're calling that quagmire this year, when we talk about it at all.

Since last Memorial Day, the number of American soldiers who have lost their lives in Iraq has grown from 4,300 to 4,400. Another 100 men and women have died; another 100 families will never see their loved ones again. Officially, 32,000 have been wounded, and God knows how many more are emotionally scarred from the insanity they have lived through.

For what? For nothing I can see.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad, I'm thankful, and I'm proud there are American men and women in the U.S. armed services protecting us.

I just don't see how their sacrifices in Iraq are at all protecting America's shores or America's interests. People in the Middle East have been warring amongst themselves for thousands of years. That hasn't changed in the seven years American troops have been there. 4,400 American deaths haven't changed that.

Weapons of mass destruction were never shown to exist in Iraq, and the terrorists who hijacked the planes in 2001 weren't from Iraq.

The Iraq War has never been properly explained or justified.

As I've said for the past five years: Bring 'em home, now!
